Although the Loving Spoonful office remains closed for the foreseeable future due to the current state of emergency regarding COVID-19, Loving Spoonful staff continue to be busy working from home offices, connecting people with good food.
In partnership with Community Harvest Kingston and the Kingston Community Health Centres, we received $10,000 from the Good Food Access Fund to get 400 free Good Food Boxes to our community during the COVID-19 crisis. We’re grateful to the Agriculture & Agri-food Canada and Community Food Centres Canada for providing essential funding to help us offer emergency food relief in our community!
The Garden for Good Campaign is in full swing! We've partnered with Rideau 1000 Island Master Gardeners and Kingston Area Seed System Initiative to encourage and support everyone to grow food for their own families and for donation to the community. This included distributing free seeds through local businesses open for delivery.
Our GROW Project staff haven't stopped growing! Quite the opposite; they've been busy adapting the GROW workshops into online learning modules for teachers, families and anyone interested in good food, community, collaboration and environmental stewardship. Find these videos, activities and resources on our GROW Project@Home page.
Our Community Kitchens staff also continue to connect regularly with our community partners and are exploring other ways of learning healthy food skills together. They're also developing resources, such as taking photos and making recipes with foraged traditional Indigenous foods and medicines for the Kingston Indigenous Language Nest.
